Here’s what they had to say.

Money and Electronics
Set up an international calling plan with your mobile carrier, or use free messaging apps like WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger over Wi-Fi (be sure to turn off data roaming while abroad). Download useful apps such as your airline’s app, a weather app, a currency converter, a translation app, maps, and rideshare apps like Uber or Freenow.

My travel tip is to plan your vacation around experiences, not just destinations. Instead of starting with where you want to go, think about how you want your trip to feel. Whether it’s relaxing on a quiet beach, hiking through national parks, exploring charming towns, or celebrating a special milestone, choosing a destination that matches the experience you’re looking for leads to a much more meaningful vacation.
💬 From Michele Wirth
The one piece of advice I give almost every traveler is to travel with an open mind and be flexible if things don’t happen exactly as you hoped.
The difference between a good vacation and a great vacation isn’t necessarily everything going perfectly all the time. There are so many variables we can’t control, but having a go-with-the-flow attitude prevents little hiccups from turning into vacation disappointment.
A few years ago, during a river cruise trip down the Danube, we found out that Germany had scheduled a country-wide transportation strike that would impact our ability to get to the Munich airport once we arrived in Vilshoven.
Instead of allowing that to ruin our trip, we pivoted and dropped the last day from our cruise, which would have had us in Germany during the strike, and instead took a train from our second-to-last port back to Vienna, where we spent a few additional nights before flying home from there.
It ended up being one of the highlights of our trip! We came across a lovely Easter market (I didn’t even know they had Easter markets!). We learned so much more about Vienna than we would have otherwise. And, because we had documentation and travel insurance, there wasn’t any extra expense in the end.
Which is my second piece of advice I give all travelers. You purchase travel insurance hoping to never use it, but if you don’t purchase travel insurance and anything happens, you’ll wish you had. It’s always better to be safe rather than sorry.
